Introduction

My research interests comprise International Relations Theory and East Asian Regionalism, Contemporary Maritime Affairs in East/Southeast Asia, and Japan’s International Relations. I am presently working on a book manuscript that will examine the foreign policy role of the Japan Coast Guard in the post-Cold War era. I am also developing the theoretical framework of my October 2006 dissertation, "All at Sea? Japan’s Response to the Contemporary Maritime Security Threats Posed by Infidels, Pirates and Barbarians", to assess security threats posed by actors considered to be outside or hostile to the international society.
