The inaugural ceremony will be held on 27 January 2012 in the Great Auditorium of the Academy Building of Leiden University. The ceremony starts at 12.00, with a welcome speech. Subsequently, Prof. Ho will deliver his inaugural address entitled: “Will China save Europe or collapse? Misconceptions and Economic Stability.”
In connection with this festive occasion, MEARC together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Academic China Meeting (ACO; see www.aco-nl.org) will host the conference “Asia’s Century: Prejudices, Perceptions and Perspectives.” As the conference is hosted as the ministry’s Ambassadors’ Conference, we can - without exception - welcome the attendance of all ambassadors of The Netherlands.
At the conference, we will have a keynote lecture by Rem Koolhaas (architect and founder of the Office of Metropolitan Architecture). Furthermore, various other distinguished guests will participate and present, including Laurens-Jan Brinkhorst (MEARC Patron and former Minister of Economic Affairs), Pieter Elbers (Chief Operating Officer of KLM), Prof. Peter van Lieshout (Councilor of Scientific Council for Government Policy WRR), and Dorine Burmanje (Chair Governing Board of National Cadastre).

It is expected that a great number of people will attend. However, due to restricted space, we can unfortunately only allow a limited number of participants. For this reason, it is necessary to register before Tuesday 20 December 2011 by filling out this form. After your registration has been received, you will be sent a formal invitation that will give you admission to the conference venue at the Academy Building of Leiden University.
